durf. that trailer did not excite me. I was all "yaaaay, another movie that's gonna suck without a huge injection of nostalgia"
maybe they prove me wrong. transformers sure didn't!
I've never seen tron. It was too boring to finish as a kid. I'm bored by odd things sometimes I guess.
though I do remember one part where he bends down and drinks a pool of liquid electricity. that was pretty cool.

Then honestly, why would you care to begin with?
If anybody was excited about a sequel and you didn't even watch the original, the fact that members of the original cast are back and that the story continues where it left off should make absolutely no difference to you then.
i would care cause you suggested i did by posting a link to the trailer. :P
your second sentence doesn't make a lot of sense as written. it sounds like your saying 'if you didn't like the first one why would you care about this one?' in which case my answer is: 'i wouldn't.' :)

I just see little point in passing judgment on a sequel to a movie you've never finished before.
Oh. Well as I said there was a reason I never saw the whole of the original: it was boring.
Maybe I'll give it another go sometime.
The point though: i have a pet peeve about nostalgia. i don't like it much - think it has very little value when compared to the awesomeness that is now and the amazingness that is the future. So when a movie like this comes out I feel it should be an improvement over the original. then i watch the trailer, which gives me the idea that it's just another nostalgia leech. this causes me to post a tiny mini-rant, cause those are fun to put on the internet.
you pay for my beer and we'll watch the original together :P
on a completely unrelated note the design of your journal makes me want to slide over a divider bar that does not exist. is it meant to be squished over to the left like this?
p.s. i'm in a really nitpicky mood today. it's all this internet judging... oh god, i can't stop judging the internet!

Yes, that is intentional. Judge away, it's only your job.

I can never resist mini-rants myself, so I know what you mean.
As far as nostalgia goes, the way I see it, we should celebrate awesome things no matter when it happen(s/ed). A movie certainly shouldn't leech off of that fact by itself, but a teaser trailer is hardly a showcase of a film, just something to get potential fans pumped up in the meantime. In the case of a sequel, exploiting that nostalgia for such in a teaser trailer is excusable in my opinion.
it makes sense, too. for every wierdo like me that thinks "get a job, you hippie movie" there are ten who are like "OMG TRON YES"
or for disney's sake, i hope the ratio is something like that. | |
